The main character of this story is a teenage boy named Rust-James. Rusty was a boy that got in a trouble a lot and he had people looking for him almost always. “I was hanging out at Benny’s, playing pool, when I heard Biff Wilcox was looking to kill me.”( Pg. 6- Paragraph 1) He had a knife scar going down his side from a knife fight. He is tan. “He was staring at a scar that runs down my side. It looks like a raised white line. It don’t get tan either.” (Pg. 4-
Paragraph 2) Steve is another character. Steve is a friend of Rusty. There is also, what they call him, Motorcycle Boy. He is Rusty’s brother and they look alike. Motorcycle Boy is very tough and does a lot of things he shouldn't too. There is also Patty, whose Steve’s girlfriend. (But not for long!!!) She is an uptight girlfriend with little brothers that get her to go nuts.
Setting Analysis
The setting starts at a beach when Steve notices Rusty laying down. They started to talk and then the story began. The beginning of the real story starts inside Benny’s which is a place the boys hangout at and play pool. “I was hanging out at Benny’s , playing pool,...” (Pg. 6 Paragraph 1) This setting is not too nice of a neighborhood and it has a river where these teenagers have parties and swim. “ “This is a crummy neighborhood,” Steve said suddenly.” (Pg. 12 Paragraph 10)
Plot
In the beginning of the story, Rusty is at Benny’s and he hears someone is trying to kill him. “I was hanging out at Benny’s, playing pool, when I heard Biff Wilcox was looking to kill me.”( Pg. 6- Paragraph 1) Which was actually normal for him because it happens a lot. As you can tell Rusty gets in a lot of trouble a lot of the time. Motorcycle Boy returned home from California. In the middle of the story Rusty and Steve went to a party and on their way home, they walked through an alley, two guys jumped out starting to kill them. At the end, Motorcycle boy was stealing things and the cops came and stuff got serious. You have to read the book to know what happens next.
Recommendation
I recommend this book for kids 10 to 17 because it is a book with some inappropriate language and it is a little childish. If you like conflict this is a good book for you. This is a historical fiction and a very well written book. If you are looking for this book the cover looks like-
